Problem

CityPups is a new startup that wants to help people in cities find the perfect dog to adopt.

Solution

To meet the needs of potential adopters, CityPups has created a user-friendly website featuring advanced search and filter options. This tool allows individuals to find a dog that aligns with their preferences and is suitable for city living. Additionally, the website offers a seamless appointment scheduling feature to meet prospective canine companions conveniently.

Minding Mapping

Through mind mapping, I can now efficiently visualize and connect the adoption journey that city people embark on when adopting a dog. By employing this visual technique, I have clearly understood the various steps and considerations involved in the process. A mind map allowed me to organize the information in a structured manner, making it easier to comprehend the complex interactions and choices that arise during dog adoption.

Sketching

Through Crazy 8 sketching, I have harnessed the power of rapid ideation to generate multiple innovative designs aimed at aiding city residents in their quest to find the perfect canine companion through local animal shelters within a 10-mile radius. Each sketch represents a unique approach, be it a user-friendly mobile app or a dynamic website, all tailored to streamline the adoption process and connect potential adopters with their furry friends seamlessly. Moreover, in these sketches, I have carefully considered highlighting the physical traits of each dog available for adoption, allowing users to easily filter and match their preferences for size, coat type, and temperament.

Solution : Search Bar

Users are provided with the choice to search for dogs, and the search suggestions enable them to instantly click on the most popular search option.

Solution : Filters

Customized filters were developed specifically to cater to the user's preferences, helping them find the ideal dog that fits their lifestyle in the bustling city of New York.

Usability Test

I created a prototype in Figma and conducted two rounds of testing with ten users. I gave the users four tasks.

  • Use the filters to find a dog for apartment living

  • Pick July 14th at 12:30 PM to book an appointment

Pain Points: When I prompted users to choose the "Dogs for Apartment" filter, they were uncertain whether they had activated it.

Resolved: I colored the icon and "Dogs for Apartment" text to help users easily identify if they've selected the filter.

Conclusion and Takeaways

I was apprehensive about diving in during this design sprint, especially after experiencing Capstone 1. Jumping into a project already deep into its design phase made me uneasy, as I felt unfamiliar with the nuances of the CityPup project. Initially, platforms like PetFinder.com significantly influenced my approach. I even devised a quiz similar to PetFinder, but soon recognized that I wasn't truly addressing user needs. In designing CityPups, my primary goal was to ensure transparency in information and to expedite and streamline the process of meeting the dogs.

During the concluding interview of the CityPups design sprint, I discovered that users prioritize finding a dog suitable for their living conditions and are conscious of the price. This experience deepened my insight into customizing websites for urban residents.
